GreyOrange Showcases AI-Driven Software and Smart Robots Working Together to Modernize Omnichannel Fulfillment at RILA LINK2020

ATLANTA and DALLAS (Feb. 24, 2020) – Attendees at the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) annual conference LINK2020 will experience inventory in motion in a modern omnichannel operation demonstrated at GreyOrange booth 1507, Feb. 24 – 26, 2020 at the Gaylord Texan in Dallas.

GreyOrange uniquely integrates Artificial Intelligence-driven software with a series of smart robots to modernize fulfillment operations worldwide. At LINK2020, the Company is demonstrating the GreyOrange Fulfillment Operating System (GO System) orchestrating fulfillment in an omnichannel warehouse for a general merchandise retailer.

The GO System accumulates intelligence to continuously prioritize orders to fulfill through real-time interactions between GreyMatter software and a series of Ranger robots operating across a range of fulfillment tasks. Robots communicate with each other and with GreyMatter to inform and shape fulfillment decisions based on how actual operations on the floor are flowing with planned and real-time orders and store replenishment requests.

The GO System will orchestrate communications among the Ranger robots on the show floor as they perform many of the tasks required in a real warehouse. Featured bots are Ranger GTP, a goods-to-person mobile robot that transports inventory to workers for picking and packing, and Ranger Mobile SORT, mobile conveyance and sortation robots that operate in fleets to efficiently and fluidly move parcels from receiving through dispatch to avoid sortation bottle necks that can occur with rigid systems. In the demo, Ranger Mobile SORT robots will convey packages to separate dispatch areas based on destination, carrier and shipping priority level.

Capabilities demonstrated include e-commerce and store replenishment orders managed from the same facility, as well as e-commerce orders with varying degrees of consolidation complexity, such as:

  • variability in item type, size, shape and packaging
  • orders that include single items (“eaches”), cases and pallets
  • orders that include items tracked by serial numbers or lot numbers, and
  • orders that combine both fast-moving seasonal fashion items and slower-moving staple fashion items

GreyOrange Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Samay Kohli noted, “Technology built for a previous era simply can’t keep up with immediate e-commerce demands. Software and robots built together with the same underlying intelligence meaningfully advances fulfillment accuracy, speed and overall throughput, modernizing operations.”

“Robots operating as appendages to traditional software systems help a bit, but ultimately are limited by the capabilities of the software to which they are attached,” Kohli added. “That’s why we take a fundamentally different approach, integrating the intelligence of the software and robots so that each continuously makes the other smarter.”
